Langtang Valley Peak Climbing

The Langtang Valley is one of the closest trekking regions to Kathmandu, yet it feels a world away, with glaciers, high pastures, and Himalayan peaks rising above a deep, forested valley. This peak climbing expedition combines the classic Langtang Valley trek with a guided ascent of a trekking peak, making it a good first step into mountaineering for fit trekkers.

The journey begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, followed by a walk up the valley through bamboo and rhododendron forest. The trail passes Tamang villages, stone houses, prayer walls, and waterfalls before reaching Kyanjin Gompa, a small settlement beneath Langtang Lirung and a base for exploring the upper valley. A few days of gradual climbing build acclimatization before the move up to base camp.

The climb itself starts with an early morning departure from high camp. The route crosses rock and snow, with a final steep section to the summit, where views open up over the Langtang range and across the border into Tibet. The descent returns to base camp and then down the valley to Syabrubesi and the drive to Kathmandu.

The expedition suits trekkers with a good level of fitness and some experience at altitude. Basic climbing skills, such as using crampons, an ice axe, and fixed ropes, are needed, and the guides cover these before the climb.
