Overview

Island Peak (Imja Tse, 6,189 m) is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal and a first Himalayan summit for many climbers. It stands in the Khumbu region, close to Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. This 17-day expedition combines a classic Everest-region trek with a guided summit climb.

After arriving in Kathmandu and spending a day preparing, you fly to Lukla and trek through Sherpa villages and Sagarmatha National Park to Phakding and Namche Bazaar (3,440 m). A rest day at Namche, then a night near Tengboche Monastery (3,870 m) and a stay at Dingboche (4,300 m), with another acclimatization day for a hike to Nangkartshang Peak or Chhukung, prepare your body for the altitude before you move up to Island Peak Base Camp (5,000 m).

From Base Camp you move up to a higher camp (5,600 m) and begin the summit climb in the early hours. The route crosses rocky ground, a glacier, and a final steep snow and ice slope to the top, with views of Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, and Ama Dablam. After the summit you return to Base Camp and follow the trail back via Tengboche, Namche Bazaar, and Phakding or Lukla, then fly to Kathmandu.

The climb suits fit trekkers with some altitude experience who want to try mountaineering. Basic skills with crampons, an ice axe, and fixed ropes are needed, and your guides will go over them before the climb. We arrange the permits and paperwork, experienced Sherpa guides, and basic equipment up to Base Camp. The best seasons are March to May and September to November.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu & transfer to Hotel (1335m)

Day 03: KTM to Lukla Flight and trek to Phakding (2610m)

In main busy season drive to Ramechhap & flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding

Day 04: Trek to Namche bazar (3440m)

Day 05: For acclimatizing (3440m)

Day hiking to Syangboche / Everest view Hotel, Khumjung village & back to Namche

Day 06: Trek to Tengboche or Deboche (3870m)

Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4300m)

Day 09 Trek to Island Peak Base Camp (5000m)
