Annapurna Circuit Trek

Overview

The Central Nepal is dominated by Annapurna Himal and the town of Pokhara. There are three major trekking routes in this region:

The Annapurna Circuit is a trek within the mountain ranges of central Nepal. The total length of the route varies between 160–230 km (100-145 mi), depending on where motor transportation is used and where the trek is ended. This trek crosses two different river valleys and encircles the Annapurna Massif. The path reaches its highest point at Thorung La pass (5416m/17769 ft), reaching the edge of the Tibetan plateau. Most trekkers hike the route anticlockwise, as this way the daily altitude gain is slower, and crossing the high Thorong La pass is easier and safer.

The mountain scenery, seen at close quarters includes the Annapurna Massif (Annapurna I-IV), Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Pisang Peak, and Paungda Danda. Numerous other peaks of 6000-8000m in elevation rise from the Annapurna range.

The trek begins at Chame. Chame can be reached after 11 hrs. drive from Kathmandu. The driving along the paddy fields and into subtropical forests, past several waterfalls and gigantic cliffs, and through various villages.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu (1,320m)

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and Trek preparation

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar (760m)

Day 04: Drive to Chame (2,630m)

Day 05: Trek start from Chame to Pisang (3,200m)

Day 06: Trek from Pisang to Manang (3,540m)

Day 07: Trek from Manang to Khangsar (3,745m)

Day 08: Trek from Khangsar to Tilicho Base Camp (4,140m)

Day 09: Hike to Tilicho Lake (4,949m) and Trek Back to Tilicho Base Camp

Day 10: Trek from Tilicho Base Camp to Yak Kharka (4018m)

Day 11: Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorung Phedi (4,450m)

Day 12: Trek from Thorung Phedi to Muktinath (3800m) via Thorung Pass (5,416m)

Day 13: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2713m)

Day 14: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara or by drive to Pokhara (820m)

Day 15: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by bus (1,320m) | Farewell Dinner

Day 16: Departure day
